Chapter 29: Q14CQ (page 1061)
Tanning salons use 鈥渟afe鈥 UV with a longer wavelength than some of the UV in sunlight. This 鈥渟afe鈥 UV has enough photon energy to trigger the tanning mechanism. Is it likely to be able to cause cell damage and induce cancer with prolonged exposure?
Short Answer
Yes, high exposure for UV can induce cancer even if we use long-wavelength UV rays. It is all depending on the amount of energy the cell receive.
