Real numbers are simply the combination of Whole numbers, Integers, Rational and Irrational numbers in the number system.

Suppose a, b, and c is three real numbers.

Commutative Property of Addition:

Property: a + b = b + a

If you add two real numbers in any order, the sum will always be the same.

Example: 5 + 2 = 2 + 5 = 7

Commutative property of Addition states, if you add two real numbers in any order, the sum will always be the same.

Evaluate the expression:

To evaluate the expression$4+x+\left(-1\right)$, the term\[y\]is a variable.

The terms 4and (– 1) are constants.

Using the Commutative property of addition, adding like terms,

$\begin{array}{l}4+x+(−1)\\ 4+x−1[+(−1)=−1]\\ x+(4−1)\\ x+(−1+4)(\text{CommutativePropertyofAddition)}\\ x+3\end{array}$

$4+x+(- 1)  =  x  +  3$
