Rule: ${\text{a}}^{\text{x}}→$a is called base and x is exponent

a = 18 and x = 7

Base = 18 and exponent = 7

Find the base and the exponent in the expression 13⁵

According to the exponent rule:

${\text{a}}^{\text{x}}→$a is called base and x is exponent

a = 13 and x = 5

Base = 13 and exponent = 5

$5  ·  5  ·  5  ·  5  ·  5  ·  5  ·  5  ·  5=5^7$

The above expression which shows repeated multiplication of the same factor is called a power.

Here, the number $5$is called the base whereas the number 7 is called the exponent or power.

The exponent or power represents the number of times the base is used as a factor.

In this example,$5  ·  5  ·  5  ·  5  ·  5  ·  5  ·  5  ·  5=5^7$, the base $5$is used as a factor for 7 times.
