Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) is a paradigm used to structure software programs into simple, reusable pieces of code called 'classes.'
Each class serves as a blueprint for creating individual instances known as 'objects,' which are built from the class specifications. OOP focuses on the concepts of encapsulation, abstraction, polymorphism, and inheritance to increase code modularity, flexibility, and maintainability.

Classes can contain data in the form of fields (or attributes) and code in the form of methods (or functions). By encapsulating these elements, a class ensures that the inner workings are hidden from outside interference, providing a clear interface for interaction. Moreover, since OOP emphasizes reusability, developers save time by not having to write code from scratch; rather, they create new classes by building upon existing ones through inheritance or by modifying their behavior.

The toString method in Java is crucial for providing a string representation of an object. By default, every class in Java inherits this method from the Object class.

When you use System.out.println() or concatenate an object with a string, Java implicitly calls the object's toString method to convert the object to a string. If not overridden, the method returns a string comprised of the class name followed by an 'at' symbol and the object's hashcode. However, to make the string representation more informative and useful, it's considered good practice to override toString to include significant attributes of the object. This makes debugging easier and improves the readability of logging messages.

The equals method is a fundamental part of Java that determines if two objects are considered equal.

The default implementation of the equals method in the Object class compares memory locations, which means it checks if the references to the objects are the same. However, in many cases, equality should be determined based on the state of the objects, not their place in memory. Thus, you should override the equals method to compare the actual data fields of the objects.

Overriding this method correctly is important for maintaining consistent behavior across various methods and collections that rely on equality checks, such as Lists or Sets that use equals to prevent duplicates.

Inheritance is integral to Java's Object-Oriented design, allowing a new class to inherit properties and methods from another class, known as the 'parent' or 'superclass.'

The subclass, or 'child' class, gains all non-private members from its superclass and can use these as is, or it may override them to provide specific behaviors. This mechanism is a cornerstone of code reuse and polymorphism. For example, the default toString and equals methods that every Java class gains are a result of inheriting from the Object superclass—the root of the class hierarchy in Java.

By harnessing inheritance, programmers can create efficient, hierarchical structures that reflect real-world relationships, simplify the codebase, and enhance maintainability.
