Plastocyanin is a copper-containing protein that helps electrons move between cells. It may be found in a wide range of plants, where it aids in photosynthesis.The protein is a prototype of the blue copper proteins, a class of metalloproteins with a deep blue hue.

The thylakoid membrane contains three electron-transporting complexes: plastocyanin-ferredoxin oxidoreductase, plastoquinone-plastocyanin oxidoreductase, and water-plastoquinone oxidoreductase.
