Childern sometimes play with a homemade 鈥渢elephone鈥 by attaching a string to the bottoms of two paper cups. When the string is stretched and a child speaks into one cup, the sound can be heard at the outer cup, the sound can be heard at the other cup (Fig 12-29). Explain clearly how the sound wave travels from one cup to the other.

Short Answer
The wave travels down the string and the reciver鈥檚 cup to vibrate due to energy. The vibrating surface moves the air, which forms the sound wave from the bottom of the cup and travel into another cup.
At the end, the sound wave are going in the reciver鈥檚 ear and the reciver will hear the sound.
