Conduction is the process of transferring heat through a solid material without any actual movement of the material itself. The heat is transferred by the vibrations of atoms and molecules within the material. For example, if you heat one end of a metal rod, the heat will transfer through the rod to the other end by conduction.

Convection is the process of transferring heat through the movement of fluids, such as liquids or gases. As a fluid gets hotter, it becomes less dense and rises, while colder, denser fluid sinks. This creates a circulation pattern within the fluid, which transfers heat. For example, when you heat water in a pot on the stove, the hot water at the bottom of the pot rises to the top, while the cooler water from the top sinks to the bottom. This circulation pattern is called a convection current.

Radiation is the process of transferring heat through electromagnetic waves, such as visible light or infrared radiation. Unlike conduction and convection, radiation does not require a medium like a solid or fluid to transfer heat. For instance, the Sun transfers heat to the Earth through radiation, as the electromagnetic waves travel through the vacuum of space.

At this moment, all three methods of heat transfer are likely happening around us: 1. Conduction: If you are sitting on a chair with metal legs, heat conducts from the warmer parts of your body to the cooler metal legs. 2. Convection: If there's a fan or air conditioning running in the room, the air movement circulates warm air away from your body, allowing you to feel cooler through convection. When you breathe, warm air from your lungs and trapped in your clothing escapes, which is another example of convection. 3. Radiation: If you are in a room with sunlight, the heat you feel from the Sun's rays is transferred through radiation. Your body also emits infrared radiation that can be detected by thermal cameras. Overall, the three methods of heat transfer are an important part of understanding everyday temperature changes and maintaining comfortable conditions in various environments.
