This is a group project. Determine the area of each class
member’s right hand. You can do that by tracing the
profile of everyone’s fingers on a white sheet of paper and
using any of the techniques discussed in this chapter to
compute the area of each hand. Compile a data bank
containing the areas of the right hands of each person in
class. Based on some average, classify the data into small,
medium, and large. Estimate how much material (outer
leather and inner lining) should be ordered to make
100,000 gloves. How many spools of thread should be
ordered? Describe and/or draw a diagram of the best way
to cut the hand profiles from sheets of leather to minimize wasted materials.
