The air around us is filled with moisture, which is often in the form of an invisible gas called water vapor. This vapor is water in its gaseous state, mixed within the air. It's important to note that warmer air can hold more water vapor compared to cooler air.
When we think about water vapor, imagine a sponge soaked with water. Warm air acts like a sponge that can hold a lot of water vapor. However, as it cools, it starts losing its ability to hold the water vapor, just like a sponge would if you squeezed it.

This is crucial for understanding why condensation occurs. As air cools, especially around cold objects, its capacity to hold water vapor decreases. Consequently, some of that vapor must transition into liquid water, thereby becoming visible droplets.

The dew point is a specific temperature, a threshold, where air becomes fully saturated with water vapor. At this point, the air cannot hold any more moisture in a gaseous form. As the temperature falls further, the excess moisture condenses into liquid.
Consider a cool morning when you notice dew on the grass. This occurs because the temperatures overnight dropped to the dew point. Similarly, when air comes into contact with a cold surface, like a glass of iced drink, it can cool enough to reach or dip below its dew point, resulting in condensation.
