Plotting points is a process that involves placing a point at a specific location on the Cartesian plane according to its coordinates. The given point's coordinates, in the form \( (x, y) \), direct us first to move left or right from the origin for \( x \) units, and then up or down for \( y \) units.

Visualizing Points on the Graph

For example, to plot the point \( P(4,4) \), you begin at the origin (0,0) and move 4 units right to align with \( x=4 \) and then 4 units up to align with \( y=4 \), graphically portraying P's location. This method is repeated for every set of coordinates provided. Plotting accurately ensures that each point's representation on the graph is true to its mathematical location, making the conceptual understanding of functions, shapes, and other relations in math much clearer.

The Cartesian plane is divided into four regions or quadrants, each distinguished by a different combination of signs for their x and y coordinates. Beginning from the origin and moving counterclockwise:
