The same principle applies to other terms in a complex expression, such as \(15 + 24i\), where 15 is real and 24i is imaginary. Even standalone numbers like \(10\) count as real parts because they lack the imaginary unit "i." Understanding these parts is crucial for manipulating complex numbers accurately.

When adding complex numbers, the process is quite similar to adding polynomial terms — simply combine like parts together.

• First, add the real parts. From the expression \((4+6i) + (15+24i) - 10\), sum the real numbers: \(4 + 15 - 10 = 9\).
• Second, focus on the imaginary components. Combine the imaginary parts \(6i + 24i\) to get \(30i\).

It helps to always group similar terms to prevent mixing or misplacing the components, especially when working with multiple complex numbers.

The standard form of a complex number is typically expressed as \(a + bi\), where \(a\) is the real part and \(b\) is the imaginary part. This format allows for a clear understanding of each component.

In our example, after combining the real and imaginary parts, we derived that the result is \(9 + 30i\). Here, \(9\) is \(a\) and \(30\) is \(b\) in the expression \(a + bi\).

Standard form is especially useful for comparing complex numbers or performing further operations like multiplication or division, since the real and imaginary components are clearly delineated.
