The slope of a line is a measure of its steepness and direction. It’s crucial in understanding how two variables relate to each other on a graph. To determine the slope (commonly denoted as 'm'), we use the slope formula, which is \[ m = \frac{y_2 - y_1}{x_2 - x_1} \].

In this formula, \((x_1, y_1)\) and \((x_2, y_2)\) are two points on the line. By substituting these points into the formula, we calculate the change in y (the rise) over the change in x (the run). A positive slope means the line inclines upwards while a negative slope signifies a downward incline. If the slope is zero, the line is horizontal, indicating no change in y with changes in x.

In our exercise example, using the points (2, 3) and (-3, 0), we plug them into our formula to get \[ m = \frac{0 - 3}{-3 - 2} = \frac{-3}{-5} = 0.6 \], showing us that for every step we move horizontally, the line moves up 0.6 units.

Linear equations form straight lines when graphed, and they have the standard form \( y = mx + b \), where \( m \) represents the slope and \( b \) is the y-intercept, the point where the line crosses the y-axis.

In the context of the given problem, once we’ve plotted the points and calculated the slope, we can deduce the form of the linear equation that would run through these points.
