Such functions belong to the class itself rather than to any object, enabling them to be used in a more versatile and sometimes optimized manner. Learning to utilize static member functions is an essential skill in C++, often seen in utility classes or when a function is needed that does not require access to an object's instance variables.

Class methods in C++ are functions that operate with the context of a class. In object-oriented programming, classes are blueprints for objects, and the member methods define behavior that the objects created from these classes can exhibit.

Class methods can be either non-static or static. Non-static methods require an instance of the class, as they usually operate on individual object's data. For instance, a method 'display()' might print out an object's specific properties.

Static Class Methods

On the other hand, static class methods are those that do not require an object to execute. They can be called solely with the class name, which makes them particularly useful for operations that are not specific to an instance of the class. This characteristic enables them to perform tasks that relate to the class as a whole, like keeping track of the number of created objects or providing utility functions that are relevant across all instances.

Object-oriented programming (OOP) is a programming paradigm centered around the concept of 'objects'--which are instances of classes consisting of data, in the form of fields, often known as attributes; and code, in the form of procedures, known as methods.

OOP is all about creating modular, reusable code. It encourages developers to structure software as a collection of discrete objects that incorporate both data and behavior. This modularity fosters a clear programming environment since it enables developers to model real-world scenarios more effectively.

Four Pillars of OOP

In OOP, four main principles guide the design and structure of programs: encapsulation, abstraction, inheritance, and polymorphism. Encapsulation means that a group of related properties, methods, and other members are treated as a single unit. Abstraction involves hiding complex realities while exposing only the necessary parts. Inheritance allows a class to inherit methods and properties from another class. Polymorphism gives a way to use a class exactly like its parent so there is no confusion with mixing types.
