NADP reduction is the final step in the light-dependent reactions of photosynthesis. Here, high-energy electrons from PSI are ultimately transferred to NADP鈦�, combining with protons (H鈦�), to form NADPH.
NADPH acts as a reducing agent, carrying high-energy electrons and hydrogen, which are essential for driving the Calvin Cycle in the chloroplast's stroma where glucose is synthesized.
This reduction process is crucial because NADPH serves as one of the main energy carriers produced during photosynthesis, alongside ATP. Without NADPH, the energy harnessed from sunlight would not be effectively transferred to the Calvin Cycle, halting the synthesis of energy-rich carbohydrates.

The cytochrome complex, specifically the cytochrome b6f complex, is a vital component of the electron transport chain within the thylakoid membrane of chloroplasts.
This complex acts as a bridge between Photosystem II and Photosystem I, facilitating the flow of electrons. As electrons move through the cytochrome complex, protons are transferred across the thylakoid membrane, contributing to a proton gradient that drives ATP synthesis.
The cytochrome b6f complex is integral not only for electron transport but also for coupling electron flow to the creation of a proton gradient.
