Myasthenia gravis is an autoimmune disorder characterized by muscle weakness and fatigue. It occurs when the immune system mistakenly attacks the body's own receptors for acetylcholine on muscle cells, leading to reduced muscle contraction. The treatment for myasthenia gravis often involves the use of acetylcholinesterase inhibitors to increase the amount of acetylcholine at the neuromuscular junction, which compensates for the reduced number of receptors.

However, careful management of the condition is required to find the balance between providing symptom relief and averting the overaccumulation of acetylcholine, which would lead to a cholinergic crisis. Therefore, the dosage of acetylcholinesterase inhibitors must be carefully titrated to the individual needs of the patient.
