Beta-oxidation is the catabolic process that cleaves fatty acids into two-carbon fragments, which the cell can feed into the Krebs cycle for energy production. It's like the body's way of metabolizing fats for a slow but steady stream of power.

During beta-oxidation, each cleavage yields acetyl-CoA alongside the high-energy electron carriers NADH and FADH2. These carriers are then poised to enter the electron transport chain, underscoring beta-oxidation's role as a significant contributor to the cell's energy pool.
