This condition requires prompt medical attention as it can damage the kidneys or spread to the bloodstream, leading to a life-threatening condition.

Common symptoms include high fever, chills, back, side (flank) or groin pain, abdominal pain, frequent urination, strong and persistent urge to urinate, and cloudy, dark, bloody, or foul-smelling urine. The treatment typically involves antibiotics, and in severe cases, may require hospitalization. Drinking plenty of fluids and urinating frequently can help to flush bacteria from the body, potentially preventing the infection from escalating to the kidneys.
