The genome is the complete set of genetic information of an organism, stored in its DNA (or RNA in some viruses). The proteome refers to the complete set of proteins that can be expressed by an organism's genome under a particular set of conditions. The genome provides the blueprint for the proteome, as the genes encode the information required to produce proteins. However, it is important to note that the relationship between genome and proteome is not one-to-one, as multiple proteins can be produced from the same gene (through processes such as alternative splicing and post-translational modifications). Also, not all genes in the genome are active in every cell type or at every stage in an organism's life. Consequently, different combinations of genes give rise to distinct proteomes in different tissues or cells.
