Follicular phase (Days 1-14): This phase coincides with the menstrual and proliferative phases of the uterine cycle. During the follicular phase, several ovarian follicles are stimulated to grow and mature, primarily by the action of follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH). The dominant follicle, which contains the developing ovum, releases increasing amounts of estrogen that signal the endometrial lining to thicken. 2. Ovulation (Day 14): Ovulation is triggered by a surge in luteinizing hormone (LH) and occurs around day 14 of the cycle. During ovulation, the mature ovum is released from the dominant follicle and becomes available for possible fertilization. 3. Luteal phase (Days 15-28): This phase coincides with the secretory phase of the uterine cycle. After the release of the ovum, the remaining follicular tissue forms the corpus luteum. It secretes progesterone and estrogen, which maintain the endometrial lining and prepare it for possible implantation of a fertilized egg. If fertilization doesn't occur, the corpus luteum degenerates, and a new menstrual cycle begins.
