A geneticist decides to use yeast DNA chips (micrearrays) to study the effects
of deletion mutations in the yeast masing-type locus MAT. To perfom these
experiments, RNA b extracted from two strains of yeast to be compared. and
labeled cDNA probe is prepared from each

MATal, MATQ2, and MATal are DNAs for the possible coding sequences present at
the MAT locus. asg and ay spots contain DNA of genes expresed spedifically in
a and a cells, respectively, and hys spots contain DNA of genes expressed
specifically in haplotd cells. For each of the hybridizations in the
accompanying table; indicate the expected color of the hybridization (red,
green, yel. low, of none). Yellow indicates equal amounts of \(\mathrm{Cy} 3\)
and Cy5, and "none" indicates lack of expression in both stains. The symbol
\(A\) means a deletion mutation. (Before tackling this problem. you may wish to
review the genetic control of yeast mating type in Section 12.9.)
