Gustation is the scientific term for the sense of taste. It is one of the five traditional senses and plays a vital role in how we enjoy and perceive food. Taste helps us identify nutritious food and avoid harmful substances. This sense involves detection of tastants by taste buds found on the tongue and other areas in the mouth.
The five basic tastes detected through gustation are:

Each taste bud contains taste receptor cells that send signals to the brain, letting us experience and differentiate various tastes.

Pheromones are chemical signals released by animals and humans that affect the behavior or physiology of others of the same species. Unlike tastants, which are involved in gustation, pheromones are primarily detected through the olfactory system and are important in various biological functions.
Two main types of pheromones include:
* Releaser pheromones 鈥� trigger an immediate behavioral response, such as attraction or aggression.
* Primer pheromones 鈥� cause long-term changes in behavior or physiology, like altering reproduction cycles.
Pheromones are crucial for animal communication and play roles in marking territory, finding mates, and social bonding.
