White matter pathways in the human brain are responsible for transferring messages from one gyrus to another, from one lobe to another, from one side of the brain to the other side of the brain, and for forming internal brain structures.

The two hemispheres are connected by a thick ring of nerve fibres called the corpus callosum. The two regions of the brain can communicate with one another through this "bridge."

• The limbic system controls several behaviours and emotions. It contains regions of the thalamus, hypothalamus, and amygdala as well as the cingulate gyrus and hippocampus, which are cerebral cortex regions close to the centre of the brain.
• On top of the brainstem, the cerebellum is located at the base of the brain.
• The pituitary gland, a pea-sized endocrine gland that releases numerous distinct hormones that impact other glands as well as other cells, receives signals from the hypothalamus, which in turn regulates the endocrine system.
