Macronutrients, as well as micronutrients, are an essential part of plant nutrition.

Nutrients in bulk amounts required for plant growth and development are known as macronutrients. These include carbon and nitrogen. Plants use these elements in larger amounts. Carbon is an essential element that is present in major macromolecules like proteins, carbohydrates, and nucleic acids.

Along with macronutrients, plants use other elements in very small amounts which are also called trace elements. These are referred to as micronutrients. They include boron (B), and manganese (Mn).
